What causes disorders of joint dysfunction?

Events of everyday life, to include training, trauma and a variety of others, result in joint dysfunction, causing undue stress on the immediate and surrounding nerves, indirectly affecting all the muscles controlled by those nerves. This added stress costs your body efficiency and reaction time.

While muscular imbalance and dysfunctional posture is a major culprit, it is not the only one. Response to chemicals in our environment and what we eat can adversely affect our nervous system and joints. These can include preservatives, pesticides, sweeteners, poisons, and yes, even dairy and grains. The body also makes its own chemicals, like epinephrine, stomach acid, hormones and insulin. Imbalance of these important chemicals in our body can also cause stress to our nervous system creating joint dysfunction as well. This is another reason why the team at Sky’s Limit encourages healthy eating!

How do we treat joint dysfunction?

Joint dysfunction is primarily treated by a procedure known as a chiropractic adjustment. Dr. Heather applies specific pressure to the dysfunctional joint correcting its alignment which in turn causes a neurological response. Because the brain is an integral part of treatment, it may take more than 1 or 2 treatments to convince your muscles and joints that its old ways of movement were dysfunctional.

Why see Dr. Heather?

Dr. Heather does CrossFit herself, and she understands the movement patterns of all the fundamental exercises.  Paired with her experience as a fitness professional, she is adept in evaluation of bio-mechanical dysfunction giving her patients the greatest success in the office and the gym as well.  Think about your car. You get the oil changed and tires rotated regularly. Why would you not take similar care of your body also? Because we all come from different backgrounds and have overcome different obstacles professionally, physically and emotionally, we are different from one another and require different needs.  Dr. Heather not only emphasizes the importance of spinal health, but she has a vast knowledge of overall joint health. Many people see their chiropractor only when they are in pain, but pain is not the only indication of inefficiency.  Nor is it the only reason you see your chiropractor for treatment. Chiropractic care ensures that your body is balanced, joints are aligned, and muscles are firing correctly, so that you can function optimally in and out of the box.
